Thriving in Motion
Thriving in Motion’s Youth Moves Program supports WA youth (15-25 years) to engage in an evidence-based movement program within an uplifting and non-judgmental environment. This program is led by a multidisciplinary team and fosters a supportive peer community. The initiative aims to develop an accessible pathway to active recreation, sport, and exercise for young people who experience the greatest need, face high rates of disengagement, and are currently underserved within the community. By doing so, the program seeks to improve both the mental and physical health outcomes of participants, including managing mental distress and increasing physical activity participation.
Sessions/How it works:
The initiative aims to develop an accessible pathway to active recreation, sport, and exercise for young people who experience the greatest need, face high rates of disengagement, and are currently underserved within the community. By doing so, the program seeks to improve both the mental and physical health outcomes of participants, including managing mental distress and increasing physical activity participation.
The program offers a diverse mix of active recreation and sporting activities, such as dance, team sports, gym-based activities, outdoor pursuits, boxing, strength and conditioning, and aerobic exercises. These activities provide young people with the opportunity to explore various forms of movement, build confidence, expand their knowledge, and gain exposure to different ways of staying active.
Thriving in Motion particularly welcomes LGBTQIA+ participants, having run trans and gender-diverse specific programs for years. The organisation is committed to fostering a group exercise environment that is free from queerphobia, ensuring a safe and inclusive space for all.
